Fishtank swap light logic control module

Postby panarabica » Tue Jul 28, 2020 9:21 pm

Good evening,

I managed to get this week a set of quads headlights for my XJ81 for a good price. Now the things have arrived including the light logic control modules. Checking the light logic modules I have in my daimler I noticed they were plastic and that the quads are made of aluminium. Before attempting any kind of swap the question goes to the knowing in the forum: Can I use the modules installed for the fishtanks for the quads?

Thanks

Robert

Well you need wiring for two headlamps as apposed to one (each side) so the first answer would be no. Only way of doing it would be to splice another set of wires in but I have never heard of it done or indeed think it would work. I think it would be far easier to get the correct modules for your year car.

Don is quite correct, you need quad BFMs (Bulb Failure Modules) with two square connectors (one black and one white) for the wiring loom and two round connectors, one for the inner quad lamp and the other for the outer quad lamp. It is possible to botch it so the lamps work in tandem from a fish-tank BFM, but I would not recommend it. The quad BFMs come up on ebay quite often or maybe Naki has a set going spare.

Not only are there different modules for quads or fish tanks, but there’s also early or late versions of those parts with completely different plugs on them.
You know by now nothing is ever simple on these cars.
I have a set of late quad BFM’s if required. Message me.

Thanks for the info, so no quick fix and keeping the old modules. As it is as project for the future, need to see how I go about this.
